Easter Dress

Grandma Martin made Brooklyn the CUTEST Easter dress!! She looked so pretty and it was a great day reflecting the Resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ. I'm so grateful for the Atonement and Resurrection of Christ and the Restored Gospel where I know I have the chance to return to my Father in Heaven.

Little stinker would NOT keep any of her hair clips in!!

Boise

A couple weekends after our Dallas trip, I had a trip booked to Boise to visit my family and go to my friend's wedding reception. I'm not going to lie I was SO close to canceling my trip after our flight experience coming home from Dallas. After a few days of recovering, and changing one of my flights around, I decided to go for it again. Even though I was alone this time, the flights were much shorter and I was using sky miles to get there so I actually had a ticket this time. The flights were open and I was able to bring the carseat on but seriously, her age is the worst to try and fly with. She did alright but lets just say I'm SOO grateful we won't be flying with her again for A LONG time!! One of my good friends was getting married and having a reception in Boise that weekend and it was the start of my mom and sister's spring break so it was the perfect time to go for a visit. Brooklyn loves getting all the attention there!

We went to my sister's softball game and it was FREEZING! When we first got there it wasn't bad and was sunny. I bundled Brooklyn up and she was fine walking all around. Then after about a half hour, a super cold front came in and it got all cloudy and SO windy!! Brooklyn refuses to wear hats and so I had to force this head wrap thing on to keep her ears warm. She actually kept it on, but I think she was too cold and confused to figure out it was even there. My dad brought a little tent for her to play in to block the wind but she didn't even want anything to do with that. She just followed me around crying. She hated the cold, so we went home pretty quick. Poor thing just couldn't handle that Idaho cold!

The only thing that cheered her up was M&Ms...

Not happy with me, but glad to be going home...

She can get away with anything at my parent's house!...

Dallas

About a month ago we were able to go to Dallas to visit my brother and his wife for a weekend. They both work for Southwest so they got us some "buddy passes" to come visit them. It's so nice to fly for free but it definitely has it's downsides, like getting stuck in an airport for 8+ hours with a 13 month old. (more on that later)...We had a great trip while we were there though and are grateful that they sent us out there! We loved Texas. Scotty especially loved all the great BBQ! We loved seeing Danny & Brin and miss living close to them. We were also able to meet up with our good friends Sara & Dillon Christensen for lunch! It was so good to see them!! Brooklyn did pretty good on the flights going over and we were able to take the car seat on for part of the flights which was so nice b/c she was able to sleep. Coming home is a completely different story. The night before and morning of our flight home my brother went onto his nifty SW website where he can look at how full the flights are. We picked a little longer route b/c it was "wide open" so that we could have a better chance of taking the
carseat on b/c Brooklyn will NOT sleep in my arms anymore. We got to the airport in Dallas and the SW attendants at the desk even said that our flights looked good the whole way home. We had a short flight to Houston first and that leg was wide open. Once we got to Houston we hurried and went to our next gate and were shocked when we found TONS of people surrounding our gate. Well, it turns out that it was Spring Break in Texas (which my brother didn't know) and I guess within that 50 min flight we were on, over a 100 people signed up to fly standby and were trying to get on that flight to Vegas. NIGHTMARE!!! Since we are buddy pass flyers we were bottom of the priority list and kept getting bumped and bumped and bumped. We thought about just turning around and going back to Dallas but we didn't know if this would happen again the next day anyways and all of our luggage was already on its way to Sacramento. There was a flight at 8pm that night to Vegas that we were barely able to get on. That was one of the worst 3 hours of my life. Brooklyn did pretty good considering the circumstances but would not fall asleep to save her life! Her eyes were seriously so red and she could hardly keep them open but she fought it so bad. We had the RUDEST lady behind us ever who kept making the nastiest comments to us whenever Brooklyn cried a little bit. Once we got to Vegas, we literally had to RUN to get on the next flight. Brooklyn had a total meltdown on this flight b/c she was so tired and had had the longest day. I also had a little meltdown myself and just cried most of that flight. She finally fell asleep for about 30-45 min and luckily that flight isn't very long and we had the nicest people around us this time. We finally got home around 12:30 am (we left for the airport around 9:30 am our time). Lets just say that lots of tears were shed that day and we will never be flying standby with a baby for that long of a flight, no matter how open the flights look, again. We seriously LOVED going and seeing our family and friends though!!

On our way to Texas, exploring the Vegas airport...

A little tuckered out, but we made it!

The BBQ was seriously amazing!!

We went and saw the Cowboys stadium, it's like a huge spaceship! - can you spot our daughter??

LOVE Sara!!...

Taking a short nap in the Houston airport on our way back...

Thanks for having us Danny & Brin!!

13 & 14 Months

I am seriously so behind on so many things I'm not sure where to even start. She changes so quickly that I'm just going to try to highlight some main points of Brooklyn's little world.

-She is still a very, very busy girl. She never stops. I am constantly chasing her around.
-She is OBSESSED with being outside. That is one great thing about living in California, the weather is great. She gets SO whiney if we are inside too long and will start going to the door and banging on it.
-She has always had the funniest walk. She would walk so straight-legged and wide. She pretty much waddled everywhere. Just recently she started walking a little more normal and is getting a lot faster. Not looking forward to the day when she can run!
-She LOVES climbing stairs. She has gotten pretty good about going up and down so I don't worry about her too much. She used to be great at sliding down on her tummy but has decided recently that she is much too old for that and walks down facing forward while holding the side rails - this makes me  more nervous!
-She is always so sad when Scotty leaves her in the morning. She knows when he is about to leave and starts getting whiney and follows him everywhere. When he actually leaves there is always a little meltdown. We try to distract her as much as we can so she doesn't know, but she's hard to fool.
-Another new favorite is climbing on every piece of furniture we have. She's already had a few stumbles due to this new hobby of hers.
-She is so tall and can reach things on our countertops if we leave them too close to the edge. This has also allowed her to find lots of new drawers to get into.
-She refuses to keep any clips or hair ties in her hair for more than 5 min. and it drives me CRAZY!

-Her teeth are coming in like crazy!! She only had her two bottom teeth for months and then all of a sudden, BAM!, it was one after another - we have had some rough nights and days - I think I'll save that for another post. Right now she has her 4 front teeth, 2 first molars on top just broke through (those were the worst!), 2 front bottom, bottom left lateral incisor (thanks pinterest for teaching me the teeth names), and the bottom right lateral incisor is currently breaking through.
-She has been fighting taking two naps this past month again. I can't figure out if it's the teeth or if she's ready to drop to one. When I try to drop her to one, it seems pretty obvious that she's not getting enough sleep b/c we have a much more whiny child but some days she doesn't seem tired enough for two. I have started waking her up from her morning nap after she has slept a little over an hour and that has seemed to help her still take an afternoon one. If I let her sleep too long in the morning, I can kiss the afternoon nap goodbye and am left with a major meltdown around dinnertime. But then other days (like the past two days) she will refuse to take the morning nap. I'm fine having her drop to one if she will take a longer one and be happy the rest of the day, but that's not the case yet for her. I'm hoping we can figure it out better soon.
-The words she says the most are "go, go, go" and "uh-oh" which describe her personality perfectly. She is either on the move or making some sort of mess. :) She is closer to saying "daddy" and while at my parent's house she always said "kitty." She also says, "jake"(-ake) whenever she sees her toothpaste  b/c Jake from the Netherland Pirates is on it. Still says "Gee" for Mickey. Starting to say "hi!" No longer says "mama" at all-boo! Otherwise, she talks a bunch of gibberish!
-Hasn't picked up any new signs yet.
-She is starting to put things back into cupboards and drawers - I'm always finding random things in random places.
-Loves her "paci" when she is going to sleep but is really good about handing it to us when we ask for it.
-Still using a bottle for milk but I'm going to try to start weaning that in the next month or two. Any tips?
-She understands so much of what we are saying and is usually pretty good about following directions (unless it has to do with leaving the stairs or coming inside). The other day we were about to leave and I told her to "Go get your shoes so we can outside. Go get your shoes." She had never done this before so I wanted to see what she would do. She started walking back to her room and was in there a few minutes - I started to think she was sidetracked - but then a few seconds later she came waddling out with one of her church shoes. I was dying laughing! She was close!
-Always wants to see what I'm doing whenever I'm cooking, which has led to her sitting on the counter while I cook. Makes me nervous because she doesn't sit still very long, so she doesn't get that luxury for too long at a time.
Favorite foods: Avocados are still #1, french toast, CHOCOLATE, bananas, strawberries, green beans, veggie straws, mashed potatoes, carrots, chicken broccoli, corn, tomatoes, oatmeal, cereal, smoothies, ice cream.
-Anything she doesn't want in her high chair she puts in her cup-holder, pretty funny! Still doesn't like people to feed her - has to do it herself - unless it's something she really likes. She will say "mmm" if she really likes it.
-Still loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and will bring me the remote to put it on. That's the only show that seems to hold her attention for more than 5 min. She sometimes watches Jake and the Netherland Pirates and Sofia the First.
-Is starting to put the keys up to the locks in doors. Can open doors that have a pull-down handle. Loves to push the light switches and can reach a few of them on her own already.
-Bath time is her favorite part of the day! She takes one everyday before bed. All we have to say is, "Let's go take a bath, Brooklyn" and she is instantly heading to the bathroom with the biggest smile on her face. No need to tell her twice. She is always trying to climb in before I have time to get her naked and get the water warm. She also LOVES to be naked or just in a diaper.
-She has made a HUGE improvement in the car. She is WAAYY more content and will just sit and look out the window or play with her toys, which is soooo nice!
-Definitely starting to throw little tantrums and scream when something gets taken away.-not my favorite thing about toddlerhood, obviously.
-Hates getting her diaper changed so I always have to have something to distract her.
-Is obsessed with watching videos of herself on our phones. She only plays on the Ipad every once in a while but has already learned what to push/do on the Mickey Mouse Road Rally App.
-Loves her little stroller and is always pushing her baby or Mickey in it.
-She is a nightmare to take out to eat or go shopping with most of the time. We have to make it quick. She just wants out of the cart or stroller pretty quickly to walk around and gets into everything.

She is very much a little toddler now. Makes me sad how fast she is growing up but it's fun to watch her learn new things!

Here are some pics (most of which from my phone) from the past couple of months...

How many oranges can you spot? Loves to rearrange the cuties in the fridge...

This girl and her hair...

I found these on my phone the other day and was cracking up b/c they are total little "selfies" that she took of herself!!...
